The Power of Collective Giving: An Evening With Future Fund

On October 8, I joined the Central Texas Community Foundation at CENTRO Event Center in Round Rock for the Future Fund Kickoff Party, launching its 2026–2027 giving cycle. Israa Wadif from our team came with me. It was special to be back in the same room where we celebrated our first Girls of Legacy college graduates in July.
Thank you to Daniel Hernandez of the Central Texas Community Foundation board for personally inviting me.
Future Fund is a giving circle. Members pool their gifts each year, learn about local nonprofits, meet the people doing the work and then decide together where the money goes. Since 2007, Future Fund members have granted more than $537,500 to Central Texas nonprofits.
I love this model. Members don’t just write a check. They learn what’s happening in their own community and who’s already out there meeting the need. That’s how small gifts become real impact, and how donors find organizations they may never have heard of otherwise.

It’s the same belief behind Girls of Legacy. Today, 10 first-generation college students each receive a $5,000 scholarship and a one-on-one mentor, and this year our first class graduated. None of that happens without a community that decides to invest in its own.
A few weeks ago, AvantGarde stood with this same foundation at its Legacy Luncheon. I’m grateful to keep building this relationship and excited to see where Future Fund invests this year.
