“A dream without a plan is just a wish.”

In Part 1 of my series on the topic of Pivot released on April 3rd, we tackled mindset—learning to embrace change and believe that a pivot is possible. If you missed this blog, you can read it here:

In Part 2 of my series on the topic of Pivot released May 1st, we faced the truth—getting brutally honest about what’s broken, misaligned, or no longer serving you. if you missed this blog, you can read it here:

Now as we transition into Part 3 of this final series, it’s time to take action and move. Because clarity without action? That’s just delay in disguise.

The Power of the Pivot Plan

When I talk to women (especially those in a season of transition), I hear this over and over:

I know I need change—I just don’t know how to start.”  Especially when it relates to making major changes in the pivot either in a toxic relationship, a major career move, or overall reinventing themselves. The essential steps and pieces that make magic happen can at times be overwhelming.

This is where your need to envision a blueprint comes in. Your pivot needs structure. Not a rigid rulebook, but a strategic game plan that turns your why into the how and what’s next.

Your pivot is your project now. And like any good project, it needs:

  1. A clear vision

  2. Defined goals

  3. A support system

  4. A timeline with checkpoints

  5. Room for grace

  6. Agility

Here’s How You Start Building

Let’s keep it simple. You don’t need fancy software or a 90-day plan to start moving. Just a pen, paper, some dedicated quiet time and some focused thought process.

  1. Define What “Next Level” Looks Like for You

Is it a new job? Starting a business? Finishing your degree? Healing your health or relationships?

Write it down. Make it specific. Start with what needs to change.

➡️ “I want more” won’t cut it. Try: “In 6 months, I want to launch my online consulting business.”

  1. Identify the Gap—and What Bridges It

Ask yourself:

  • What skills do I need to gain?

  • What relationships or resources could help?

  • What daily habits will move the needle?

  • What changes are 100% contingent upon me and within my control to change?

💡 Remember: Big change is the result of small, consistent, deliberate choices.

  1. Surround Yourself with Builders

Who’s in your ear? Who’s cheering for your future? Are the existing relationships in your life helpful or hurtful to your pivot?

This is where mentors, coaches, and truth-tellers make all the difference. And if you don’t have that tribe yet—go find them. (Start with us. You’re not alone here.)

  1. Create a Weekly Rhythm

Don’t try to do it all at once. Block weekly time to work on your pivot.

Example:

  • Mondays – Research & education

  • Wednesdays – Networking & outreach

  • Fridays – Reflection, planning, celebrating wins

  1. Give Yourself Grace

Life happens. You might hit roadblocks. You might pivot within the pivot. That’s okay. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s momentum.

  1. Stay Agile

Plans evolve—and so will you. The key is to stay flexible and open to new information, opportunities, and challenges. Agility isn’t about reacting in chaos; it’s about adapting with purpose. When something shifts, ask: What’s the opportunity here? Then pivot with clarity, not fear.

From My Life to Yours: Blueprint in Action

When I left my stable government job to start a job in consulting (which ultimately led to building my consulting business AvantGarde), some people thought I was crazy.I had a great Executive C-suite salary, great benefits, 401K match, and long term job security. But deep down, I knew I was called to something more, something bigger. Something that would let me lead, create impact, and build a legacy beyond just having a successful career working for someone else. There is something about the power of becoming an entrepreneur.

So, I made a plan:

✅ I started learning the consulting business by going to work for a consulting business. I had only been in government up to that point and needed to learn the industry to add value.

After tremendous success serving another private sector consulting business, I built a business case for doing it for me.

✅ I surrounded myself with people who knew more than me (i.e. mentors).

✅ I budgeted, cut back on expenses to branch out, and saved.

✅ I set goals—and gave myself grace when timelines shifted.

That plan became a reality in May 2011 when I opened the doors to AvantGarde. Today, I run a multimillion-dollar company, and I pour back into women through coaching, mentoring, and Girls of Legacy. That pivot wasn’t random. It was planned.

And now? It’s your turn.

No More Waiting—Start Walking

Your next level isn’t waiting for “someday.” It’s waiting on you to move—with a plan in hand and boldness in your step.

So, let’s recap your three pivot truths:

  1. Embrace change and renew your mindset.

  2. Tell the truth about what’s not working.

  3. Build your blueprint—and start the work.

You were made for more. You were built to grow. And your pivot isn’t a detour—it’s a divine setup for purpose.

Let’s go get it. 🔥
